Domaine Malika is our newest addition to our portfolio, a luxury guest house which we have carefully selected following consistently good reviews. It is set in the High Atlas mountains, around an hour's drive from Marrakech, in the beautiful tree lined valley of Ouirgane, noted for its peace and beauty and for the range of treks available in the areas.

Palais Oumensour has become one of our most popular riads in Morocco over the years, set in the heart of Taroudant town (under an hour from Agadir airport). It is a place to relax or from which to explore locally or further afield in the south and towards the desert, and is offering 15% special discount on room rates for our customers on bookings in February.

Marrakech, due to the great choice of flights to its international airport, is the gateway to the Morocco or a destination in its own right for most visitors to the country and can easily be combined with a second (or more) destination(s). Marrakech offers a choice of location for your accommodation - the Medina or the Palmery - each with its own appeal and what is right for you depends on what you are looking for in your holiday. We will help choose on the right location and accommodation for you.

In March the south of Morocco continues to be very attractive – the route to the Saharan desert and Taroudant and the Anti Atlas region becoming very pleasantly warm – but temperatures across Morocco are rising in March and other options are becoming more appealing, including Marrakech.

Morocco is a very welcoming and tolerant country but the vast majority of Morccans do hold Islamic beliefs and visitors should be sympathetic and respectful of that. The presence of Islam in everyday life will be felt by most visitors on holiday in Morocco, most obviously during Ramadan, in the public and regular calls to prayer, attitude to women and their clothing and the access to alcoholic refreshments - with a little thought and consideration you'll have a great holiday.

Morocco has a population greater than 33 million today, of which around 99.9% are Muslims - around 67% are Sunni and 30% are non-denominational. Islam is protected in the Constitution and the Moroccan Government strives to maintain a non-fundamental view of Islam as the basis of Moroccan religion. Morocco has always been tollerant of other religions, but the historical large Jewish communities are now minimal as are the Christian and Shia communities.

Islam was introducted to Morocco in the 7th century and has been the dominant religion and the religion of Moroccan dynasties from the 8th centuries until the present day. Today Mohammed VI is the Commander of the Faithful, with all religious leaders subordinate to him, and the Moroccan Constitution grant rights and protections to Islam.

Volubilis and the Chellah are impressive Roman ruins and are discussed in some detail in our articles this week, but they are all the more interesting as they can tie into a great two centre holiday in Morocco. With budget airline routes from the UK to Fez, Rabat (twice weekly) or to Casablanca (around 90 minutes away from Rabat), and a good rail network linking Casablanca, Rabat, Meknes and Fez, an interesting and relaxing holiday can be arranged.
