Guides are a valuable help for introduction to Moroccan towns or cities, drawing out the history and culture that might otherwise be missed, but guides in much of the world are tempted to supplement their income by encouraging their customers to shop – and, unfortunately, Moroccan guides are no exception. This need not be a significant issue, just be firm if the issue arises – if you are not interested in shopping during your tour, don’t be timid and just say no.

With larger meals at breakfast and in the evening, light snacks to keep you going in the day are my personal preference, and there's a good choice of street food around towns and cities to try. Here I write about a couple of my favourite snacks to carry around as I explore a medina or have a train journey to another city.

Having a pool at your accommodation when its hot in Morocco is important to most holiday makers and our accommodation finder can help you find the right one for your holiday. Morocco is a great place to have a holiday and the Moroccan Government is managing the steady increase in visitor numbers - which reached 10 million in 2013, over a third of whom were from France - as a valuable source of revenue for the country and jobs for Moroccans. Whilst visitor numbers are very significant, the Government is focussing the growth on larger beach resorts to try to manage the effect of tourism on the culture of its historic cities and towns.

In July many places are getting relatively very hot - most obviously the desert region (wait until the autumn to visit there), but most inland destinations are also hot. However, there are a number of excellent destinations on the Atlantic coast that offer a mix of culture and natural beauty and the southern town of Taroudant is also relatively temperate and offers a great option for those seeking to explore Moroccan culture further.
