Morocco is full of things to do, both cultural, therapeutic and energetic. Whilst in Essaouira I had time on my hands to try a watersport. Essaouira has a huge sandy beach and a number of huts providing watersport kit hire and tuition. Although I signed up one afternoon to try kite surfing the next day, the wind wasn't strong enough so I had a wonderful day trying to surf - a great way to lose some energy for the whole family.

Having your skin scrubbed with a coarse cloth and thick black soap in a public hammam in Morocco is something to remember and somthing you might well get the taste for. Ask for an introduction from your accommodation and pay for a hammam attendant to scrub and look after you, and emerge hours later thoroughly clean.
Unusual Things to do in Morocco on Holiday - Troglodytes near Fez

A chat over a cup of tea with a troglodyte is something to remember, and I was lucky enough to experience this in Bahlil (a short drive south of Fez) on a day out with our guide. Our host was a lady who had lived in a 2 roomed cave since birth and loved talking of her life and family and the issues in both.

For most holiday makers in Morocco, a wander through a souk is a valuable and interesting part of the trip. The souks in Marrakech are huge and, although are in the main focussed on international tourists, are worth a leisurely exploration. If you are tempted to buy something, be prepared for some serious haggling, which is all part of the experience.

Away from the main tourist attractions of Marrakech lie the tanneries of Marrakech, which have been turning raw hides into fine leather for hundreds of years, and the communal ovens used daily by local families. The tanneries are the unsanitised Morocco, the working conditions are an eye-opener for young and old alike and the smell is almost impossible to describe. A guide is recommended who can help you find them and avoid local touts.
