In recent years Morocco holidays have become more popular but also less diverse in nature – the golden triangle of Marrakech, High Atlas and Essaouira being the focus of the vast majority of holiday makers. Whilst they are lovely places, Morocco is so much more and below we put forward a few ideas to initiate your holiday plans
Head south for the warmth, perhaps try an adventure into the stunning desert areas or explore the remote but beautiful Anti Atlas from Taroudant - the beautiful Almond Blossom festival takes place in February near Tafraoute.
Spring is a wonderful time to visit Morocco and especially the pretty coastal town of Essaouira. The 2015 Gnaoua Music Festival takes place here in May - a spectacular music event but you'll need to book soon. From May 1st there are direct flights to Essaouira from Luton.
An excellent time to visit the fascinating, unique and ancient city of Fez and the northerly Imperial cities as the temperatures increase, perhaps extending your trip up to the charming mountain village of Chechaouen - Fez also holds the Festival of World Sacred Music in June.
These are the peak hot months but coastal regions remain more temperate so Rabat is an interesting option - a lovely city to explore, yet with fewer tourists and direct flights from Stansted or trains from Marrakech and Fez.
The High Atlas Mountains are stunning in the autumn, whether for relaxation or walking and also the Souss Estuary (near Agadir) is a good option in at this time of year as birds start to migrate through the region. It’s now the saffron is harvested in the Anti Atlas and this is something worth seeing as part of the Real Morocco experience.
Plan that special pre-Christmas break to Marrakech to shop for some really different gifts for Christmas or get away from it all over the Christmas and New Year period - again book early to avoid disappointment.
There's so much to experience across Morocco at almost any time of year. The ideas above are just a small selection and we are here to help you find what you want on a short or longer break. A list of more festivals and events throughout the year can be seen on our Festivals page.
