Trip To The Moroccan Desert

All our holiday consultants regularly travel to Morocco, and Karen is currently in Morocco and doing a regular Facebook update of her travels.

Whilst the Facebook comments might look like its one big holiday for her, the trips taken by our consultants are important and serious – it’s the time that they update their knowledge of a region of Morocco, check up on suppliers in that area and look for new suppliers that we might add to our portfolio if they meet our (rather exacting) requirements.

Karen’s Route

Karen flew into Marrakech, the entry point for most visitors to Morocco (although there are direct international flights from the UK into Fez, Rabat, Casablanca and Agadir), but from their her jorney was rather more interesting

Heading straight over the High Atlas mountains she next stopped in Ait Benhaddou, an atmospheric town of crumbling Kasbahs. Due to the distances involved and the fact that our customers are typically on holiday, we recommend staying a couple nights in each interesting town or city – Karen stayed 2 nights here (albeit in different accommodation to make the most of her work time there), but then was constantly on the move thereafter.

From there she headed towards the desert, via Skoura and Zagora. This is not an easy journey, the distances are significant so no matter how comfortable your transport is the time in a car on often bumpy, dusty and hot roads can be tiring but looking at the photos on Facebook the scenery is awesome.

However, if the desert is not a great draw for you there are some excellent alternative options cutting down on the road time, perhaps staying in the valleys and gorges of the southern High Atlas or heading to Taroudant, an interesting medina town just to the south of the High Atlas.

Karen Sees the Dunes

Anyway, for Karen she wanted to get to the dunes and reading her comments the trip was well worth it for her.

Her latest post is of the dunes of Erg Lihoudi near Zagora before heading further on to M’Hamid, literally the end of the (paved) road in Morocco.

A Little Luxury Awaits

Although Karen has chosen a long trip with many miles to be covered, I know that she has saved a little luxury to the end before her return home – a stay in Dar Ayniwen in the Marrakech Palmery.

Anyway, I wait to see what further beautiful photos she posts and to hear more tales of her holiday (sorry, I mean work trip), and what new places she thinks are good enough for our customers
