Dar Ayniwen – Marrakech Palmery

Dar Ayniwen is a boutique hotel in the Palmery district of Marrakech, hence is a short drive outside of the medina of Marrakech. Hotels in this region tend to have more space in their rooms and grounds and be of a higher standard than most of those accommodations in the Medina itself, and Dar Ayniwen certainly may be categorised as such.

Its 8 suites are all luxurious, spacious and comfortable. When my wife and I treated ourselves to a few nights there and first entered our rooms, we immediately realised that this was a special hotel and something way above where we would normally stay.

Outside in the huge garden it is easy to relax. The peace and quiet that is typical in the Palmery soon envelops you and time lounging by the large pool is wonderful.

In the late afternoon we were tempted in to the kitchens to have an informal basic cookery lesson (and realised we would never make couscous in the “proper” way at home) and in the evening after a sumptuous dinner we chatted to the owner, a fascinating man with an eclectic taste in collectable items – from champagne buckets to original Majorelle Moroccan tourism posters.

Obviously everyone is different and so are their wants and needs. Being in the Palmery means that you need to make an effort to get into the Medina (20 minutes to the main square), it is a hotel rather than a Moroccan riad (so you are not immersed in Moroccan history) and it is relatively expensive but, whether for a long weekend or as part of a multi location holiday, Dar Ayniwen certainly is a great option for many holiday makers.

Dar Ayniwen is a highly rated hotel and one definitely to consider if you are looking for somewhere special to base yourself for a few nights just outside the Marrakech Medina.
