Riads are historic family town houses with blank exteriors and welcoming interiors focussed around a central courtyard, and a number of them have not been converted into boutique hotels, on an understated through to elegant style. For those holiday makers looking to experience a little or a lot of Moroccan culture during their holiday, a stay in a riad (or dar or Kasbah) is a must.

Riad Houma, Marrakech Medina

Following our most recent visit by our travel consultant Sue, we have now taken on Riad Houma, run by Anne Hélène & Jerome, a lovely French couple. Riad Houma is a sister riad to Riad Alwachma, which has been consistently good for many years.

Riad Houma is a classic style riad featuring traditional Moroccan architecture yet was completely rebuilt in 2012. With 8 en suite bedrooms (including 2 suites) arranged around the central courtyard and a heater Jacuzzi pool on the roof terrace, it has a wonderful mix of historical warmth and feeling yet with modern facilities.

As for any good riad in Marrakech, it is only a short walk to the main square and is located to the south of Jemaa el Fnaa close to the historic monuments of the Saadian Tombs and El Badi Palace , both interesting sites and worth visiting if time permits.

An added advantage of Riad Houma is that it has a bar on the roof terrace that serves alcohol and wine is available with evening food if you opt to eat in.

Marrakech, with its great flight connections and huge range of accommodation, can easily to joined with another different location to create an interesting week’s holiday.

Essaouria on the Atlantic coast or a village in the High Atlas mountains to the south are ideally positioned for this, but there are a great number of other places possible – just talk to us to create a great holiday.
