Passports For Your Trip to Morocco

There has been a lot of chatter in the UK about long delays in getting passport renewals, which can be due to an unusually high number of applications, espeically if it's close to peak holiday periods.

Typically, passport renewals or first time applications should be dealt with within 4 weeks of application but can sometimes take longer, especially for first passport applications. Therefore make sure your passport is up to date well in advance for your intended holiday.

For your holiday in Morocco you are required to have a valid passport (Morocco obviously being outside of the EU’s Schengen Agreement area); however, there are some airlines who are stipulating a minimum of 3 months validity beyond the dates of your intended stay.

Nowadays any visitor travelling to Morocco must have a passport that is valid for the entire duration of their stay in Morocco.

Moroccan Visas

Additionally there may be a requirement for a visa for Morocco, which can also cause a time delay. However, for citizens of the UK and many other countries including those in the EU, the USA, Australia and Canada, no visa is required. In our experience the most notable nationalities requiring a pre-visit visa is India and China – but if in doubt it is best to check at an early stage (we have had last minute panics with some customers, despite our advice and warnings – this not a good way to start your holiday).

Arrival and Departure Forms

On arrival and departure there are further formalities to go through, specifically entry and exit forms. These are completed in the airport before passport control (the forms are found in arrivals and departure areas) and take only a few minutes to complete – they list basic information about you and are completed regardless of which country you are from. Although you can get them in advance (they occasionally hand out entry forms on your flight), but does not save any time – the queues to get through passport control can be very significant, and can take up to 30 minutes to get through (plenty of time to fill out a simple form).

So make sure your passport is up to date and, if not EU, the USA, Australia and Canada double check with the Moroccan Embassy well in advance if you need a visa and allow plenty of time for your application to be processed.
