In April the temperature across Morocco is starting to warm up nicely, although the winter rains won’t be fully over for another month. Temperatures across most of the country are in the 20 deg C (they will be between 2-4 deg C higher still in May), and the desert region is just starting to hot up – so there’s only a couple more months that holiday options in that region are appealing for most guests.

School holidays in mid April and the end of May can significantly affect flight and accommodation prices and availability – so if you can try to plan round those times when the schools are out.

Start to Get Your Skates on if you Want to go to the Desert

Holidays in the Saharan desert region will be uncomfortable for most holiday makers from late June through to early September as the temperature will hit 40 deg C, so if planning a trip towards Zagora or M’Hamid for a bit of camel or horse riding through the dunes and sleeping in Berber tents at night, we suggest you get planning soon or wait until the Autumn.

Taroudant, sitting just south of the High Atlas, will normally experience pleasant warmth in April (25 deg C average temperature) and the region down in to the Anti Atlas region - the agadirs (fortified houses) around Tafraoute in the beautiful Amelyn Valley, and the Souss Massa National Park south of Agadir – will be an excellent area to explore in this month or May.

The Imperial Cities

For those holiday makers with an interest in history, the Imperial cities of Marrakech, Rabat, Meknes and Fez offer excellent holiday options and the weather in all of these cities is generally very good in April – pleasantly warm (24 deg C, 20 deg C, 20 deg C, 21 deg C average monthly temperatures respectively) but with occasional showers. In another month the average temperatures will be between 2-4 deg C higher and spring rains will be coming to an end; whilst by June temperatures will be hitting 30 deg C in the in-land cities and rains will have generally come to an end.

The cities are linked by an excellent train system - with Meknes and Fez sister cities around an hour away from each other by train, although Marrakech is rather further – and have a great selection of accommodation and contrasting cities to explore.

The Atlantic Coast

Essaouria and Oualidia are beautiful places to relax in and, even though the peak summer temperatures on the coast are rarely extreme, spring and Autumn are great times to visit them – in peak summer they can be busy, the sun can be very strong and sea breezes significant. In April through to June temperatures are rising nicely and any rains virtually stopping.

Essaouira is the more obvious town to visit from Marrakech, a picturesque medina town on the Atlantic coast with good road connections to Marrakech, but Oualidia is an interesting alternative for those wishing to escape the obvious and enjoy the peace of the stunning lagoon and top class accommodation.
