Just over an hours drive south west of Marrakech in the High Atlas Mountains is the charming traditional village of Imlil. Normally a base for trekkers, Imlil is a thriving little village that can still be explored for a day out from Marrakech (or from Ouirgane/Ourika) without any trekking.
**Please Note: Naturally Morocco's excursions are only available as part of an itinerary booked through us that includes accommodation and transport.**
Imlil is very traditional at heart, but a charming Berber village to visit in a superb location to witness some of the Berber culture in a gentle fashion. The High Atlas Mountains are incredibly beautiful and well worth the short drive from Marrakech (just over an hour) or from Ouirgane/Ourika) to see the highest peak in North Africa (from a distance), Mount Toubkal which stands at 4,167m.
There are numerous little shops to explore, some small cafés and restaurants to buy a snack or sit in for lunch and an opportunity to wander round the village at your leisure. Imlil sits on a slope so if you are relatively fit, there are great photo opportunities if you explore further outside the village and take a walk up the hill for some glorious scenery at the top of the village that overlooks Imlil valley.
