Argan Trail

Trek on horseback through lovely countryside south of Essaouira including argan forests, farmland, dunes and beaches, over hills and along valleys including a gorge.

Day 1:

Transfer from Marrakech or Agadir to your overnight accommodation (on a B&B basis) in Essaouira, a beautiful fishing town on the Atlantic coast, around 2.5 hours' drive due west of Marrakech or a similar distance due north of Agadir. That afternoon or evening, if time of arrival permits, you will meet your guide and will be briefed on the excursion. Overnight in Essaouira.

Day 2-6:

Trekking on horseback During the Argan ride, you will discover the region of Essaouira on horseback. You will ride about 5 hours a day at walk, trot and canter. After leaving the Windy City towards the beaches and dunes, you will cross wadis (rivers), farmland and fields with argan trees to meet wild and unspoilt landscapes. You ride through a succession of hills and gorges carved by the river, where the water allows for the growth of olive trees and oleanders.

During the trek, you will have the opportunity to visit ruins dating from the Portuguese era, an argan oil cooperative run by Berber women and ancient villages with stone houses. At the end of each day you will spend some privileged time in a nomad bivouac. The bivouac is set sheltered from the wind, where you can enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal before spending the night in the Berber tent. Dinner and overnight stay in the camp.

Day 7:

Return to Essaouira. The last day is dedicated to exploring the coast: the dunes, fishing villages, cliffs and headlands and break for lunch. The afternoon is free for shopping in the Medina of Essaouira or a relaxing massage in a hammam (Turkish bath, massage and other treatments are not included in the price). Dinner. Overnight stay at a hotel in the city of Essaouira.

Day 8:

Departure from Essaouira to your next destination/Marrakech or Agadir airport.

**Riding lasts about 5 hours a day. Departure at 10am every morning, break for lunch around 1:30pm to eat and take a nap if needed, arrival in the camp about 5pm each day.

Accommodation: throughout your trail ride, you will be in collective tents for 6 to 7 people, or if you wish, in a 2 person igloo tent. The camps are equipped with a shower.
