High Atlas Trek (c) Jon Stock"all the ingredients for a successful trekking holiday"

Take three young children, some flatulent mules, Mohammed the singing muleteer, and the High Atlas mountains in Morocco, and you have all the ingredients for a successful trekking holiday.

If anyone had told us, when we set off early from our guesthouse in Dar Tassa, near the Berber village of Ouirgane, that we would cover 30 miles in the next three days, climbing up to 6,000ft, I would not have believed them, but that's exactly what we did.

Our children, aged 10, eight and six, covered a fair amount of the distance on foot, too, but the joy of the trek was that every time one of them grew tired, they hopped on to one of the mules. "We call them our Berber 4 x 4s," said Abdou, our guide. Jon Stock Sunday Telegraph more...

Cookery at Real Morocco"We were all very impressed by our Real Morocco experience"

"Everything about our stay in the Guest House was fabulous from the outings and cultural experiences to nights playing Scrabble and days at the Palais Salam pool. I booked an extra cultural experience in the form of an Arabic lesson and had great fun trying out my new language in the Souks.....Kais was a fun and inspirational teacher and our teenage girls adored him. Latifa and Said were also brilliant and we learned so much on our trip to the oasis with him.  We were all very impressed by our Real Morocco experience and felt honoured to be taken into the homes of the people in the Berber villages and the argan co-operative. I also sampled a fantastic massage given by Little Latifa". J Venus Evans, August 2010

High Atlas Trekking with Donkeys“At Chez Momo in the mountains we hadn’t anticipated being able to do a trek with a small child … but we booked a guide and a donkey, which meant one of us walked and one rode with our child. So we all had a rewarding three hours visiting Berber villages, meeting and drinking tea with a Berber family and their children, and despite an initial protest our daughter loved riding on the donkey and didn’t want to get off! The other great thing about Chez Momo for kids is the tent in the grounds for sitting and playing in the shade plus the swimming pool.” Maria Bowers
