Waterfalls of Jbel Aoulime: 3 Nights / 4 Days

Trek Grade: Moderate

Trek through gorges and oasis gardens to Jbel Aoulime and explore any of a dozen waterfalls. Experience the panoramic views and dramatic landscapes as the trek takes you from the slopes of the peak down to Afensou to enjoy the hammam and a final night at the guest house.

Day 1: Taroudant - Afensou - Jbel Aoulime

1 hour drive by  4x4 from Taroudant to a village near Afensou. Starting from a panoramic pass, half an hour’s walk to a typical Berber village for a tea with a family. 3 km walk (100m ascent) to Afensou through a gorge and oasis gardens, with a stop for swimming.  Berber lunch at the guesthouse Les Terrasses de l’Atlas. Drive 4x4 track to Imoulas (30 min). Approx 5 km walk (300 m ascent) on a cliff track. 4x4 drive amongst almond trees and then walnut trees.  1 hour walk to the foot of Jbel Aoulime (3,550 m) up to some waterfalls (250 m ascent). Wild camping at 1,750 m by trees and an irrigation channel.  Barbecue and fire.

Day 2: Slopes of Jbel Aoulime

Walk back on the track past Berber villages (1 hour). Mule path to Iril (250 m ascent) for 1.5 hours to another Berber village on the slopes of Jbel Aoulime for a panoramic picnic. Walk down a narrow valley (1 hour) to the first waterfalls to a wild camp site. Exploration of any of a dozen of waterfalls. Tajine dinner and camp fire.

Day 3: Jbel Aoulime - Iril - Afensou

Walk back to Iril and downhill for 3 hours, descending  1000 m over 3 hours through a gorge and dramatic landscape. Picnic on the way, probably by a stream, then 7 km walk (about 1.5 hours)or drive if tired. Aperitif and hammam at the Berber guesthouse Les Terrasses de l’Atlas. Drive by 4x4 track down to Taroudant.

Day 4: Afensou - Taroudant

Drive by 4x4 track down to Taroudant.
