Panoramas of the High Atlas: 3 days / 2 nights

Trek Grade: Moderate

An introduction to the Western High Atlas, this trek takes you through argan forest, oases, barley fields and Berber villages; it offers lovely panoramic views and an insight into the flora and fauna of the region.

Day 1:  Taroudant to Jbel Tirissi

Depart Taroudant for a 20 minute drive to Tamaloukte for tea in an oasis below the old Kasbah. 3 hours walk (500 m ascent) via a gorge with interesting flora and fauna to an ancient forest house.  Panoramic picnic site on the pass.  Afternoon 10 km (2 hour) walk on a panoramic track on the Jbel Tirissi among argan trees. Wild camping amongst barley fields. Barbecue and camp fire.

Day 2:  Jbel Tirissi to Afensou

Berber breakfast. 3 hours walk on an ancient track made during the era of the French Protectorate, very scenic and winding. Picnic beside Jbel Aoulime (3,550 m) and the whole western part of the High Atlas, with a 360° panoramic view.  Afternoon:  walk down mule paths to the village of Afensou (2 hours) where investigating the old Berber village, bathing in the river and a walk up to the spring (30 mins) are possible.

Aperitif, hammam, dinner, B&B at the Berber guesthouse Les Terrasses de l’Atlas.

Day 3:  Afensou to Taroudant

Drive by 4x4 track down to Taroudant.
