Anti Atlas “Paradise Valley"

A scenic drive through the Anti Atlas Mountains proceeds the walk. You make choose to stop to look at places of interest such as a visit to an important religious site (a Zaouia), a watering hole, threshing circles and learn about the harsh conditions in which women and children survive in this arid region - most of men move to the cities to find work.

The hike takes you up a beautiful palm filled gorge in a remote part of the Anti Atlas Mountains accessed by newly metalled dead end roads. The advised and most scenic version of the walk involves starting about 1 hour and 45 minutes away from Taroudant, descending into the gorge and then walking upstream. Alternatives are starting just over an hour's drive south of Taroudant and ending 1 hour 45 minutes' drive away. When the traverse is tackled in this sequence it  involves a steep ascent at the end of the walk but if a gentler walk is preferred the walk may be reversed.

Interesting wildlife including rare birds of prey such as Bonnelli's Eagles and kingfishers may be seen.

Normal timing: 9am - 6pm.

Cost: This varies depending on the number of participants but would normally cost about £20 per person for a group of 4 or more. It may be possible to offer for smaller groups for a surcharge.

What's included: Guide, driver and transport. A packed lunch can be requested locally.
