Tamri and the Atlantic coast North of Agadir

This visit explores the beaches, cliffs and dunes (including fossil dunes) of the Atlantic coast north of Agadir. The many attractive beaches are mainly deserted except at weekends and at the spots popular with surfers.  Normally led by Said, our experienced and very knowledgeable natural history guide, the trip is flexible and may, for example, include a visits to points of interest for bird watchers and botanists, to Agadir (for example to the port to see the fish landed (272 species!), to the beach, to the viewpoint at the kasbah, (the site of the old city destroyed by an earthquake) or even an off licence), to Tamri to a shop at a cooperative at (which sells a vast range of locally produced honeys, olive and argan oil products), a stop to buy tiny sugar bananas (organically grown out of doors and said to be the best in Morocco), to experience the culture of Taghazoute, the surfers’ paradise and/or to simply enjoy the wilder parts of the coast.

For those keen on wildlife, there are opportunities to see the endangered bald ibis at Tamri or near the lighthouse of Cap Rhir where other sea birds of interest are found and to see the various endemic species including cactoid euphorbias such as Euphorbia echinus for which this area is renowned.

There is a wide choice of lunch spots, for example beaches or near the lighthouse at the promontory of Cap Rhir.

Logistics: Starts or ends in Agadir or Taroudant. After or before the trip you may be dropped off/picked up at accommodation in Agadir. This trip may also be included as part of a transfer between Essaouira and Taroudant.

Normal timing: 9am - 6pm. 

Cost: Varies with number of participants and vehicles required, but as a guideline will be about £25 each for a party of  4 or more people. Note that other travellers may wish to join, so the price will be determined, and payment made, in Morocco unless you are a member of a larger group. If included as part of a transfer between Essaouira and Taroudant, there is an additional charge; please ask for a quote.
