SaffronREal MOrocco ‘Saffron and Souks’

From mid October until mid November our “Real Morocco” programme in Taroudant celebrates the saffron harvest in the Anti Atlas. The trip provides a unique insight into the harvesting and production of this very precious and special spice and an introduction to the use of saffron in Moroccan cuisine.

‘Saffron and Souks’ is a flexible tour that can be undertaken as a stand alone trip, or be integrated into a longer itinerary including other destinations in Morocco. The saffron itinerary is based at the walled market town of Taroudant and includes a visit to the saffron fields, a cooking lesson, the sampling of Berber meals in a Berber mountain home or a trip into the Anti-Atlas mountains and a range of other authentic experiences.

Pricing is based on two people sharing excluding flights and transfers. Flights are available with Ryanair and Easyjet from a number of UK airports to Agadir and Marrakech.

Dates for 2011

Visits to the Saffron fields are on October 17th, 24th, the day when the Saffron Festival takes place in the first week of November (date not yet fixed), November 7th and 14th.

 

4 Night / 3 Day price Includes:

  • 4 nights accommodation at the Naturally Morocco Guesthouse with private bathroom. (Alternative accommodations may be available)
  • 3 main meals, 4 breakfasts
  • An outing to the Talaouine to see the harvest and learn about saffron, visit the Talaouine souk and experience the beautiful area it grows in. More details
  • 1 days excursion to an oasis and the Anti Atlas mountains or 1 day excursion to High Atlas mountain villages for lunch
  • 3 Cultural Experiences - e.g. Caleche trip, Hammam, language lesson, or a visit to the Taroudant souk and a cookery lesson including saffron as an ingredient.

The pool at the nearby Palais Salam hotel can be used free of charge.

Optional Extras

The 4 night / 3 day Saffron and Souks itinerary can be extended to 5, 6 or 7 nights with additional meals, activities and cultural experiences. These can be viewed at Real Morocco together with details of alternative accommodation.
