PALAIS SALAM HOTEL | TAROUDANT

A large hotel created from a former palace, the Palais Salam offers the facilities expected from a 4 * hotel. Best described as a property exhibiting faded splendour due to its age, conversely it boasts fabulous mature gardens, 2 attractive pools and a perfect location (built into the town walls) from which to explore the sights of Taroudant or to take advantage of the cultural insight on offer in Naturally Morocco’s “Real Morocco” programme, run from our Guest House nearby. There is a good range of room types on offer, in both the Old and New Wings, all arranged around courtyards which give it an intimate feel, despite the size of the hotel.

Accommodation: A beautiful former governor’s palace (mainly 19th Century with parts dating back to the 16th Century), it has 142 rooms and suites, in 4 price bands, set around a number of sun terraces, superb mature gardens and courtyards. All bedrooms are en suite with air conditioning, satellite TV and mini-bar/fridge and show a little faded splendor though they are clean. There is a choice of room types: old wing and palace rooms surround the fountain and banana patios; they are more authentic and less expensive too. We recommend and usually quote for the duplex rooms (on two levels, with a bed upstairs and sitting area below). We think the Pasha’s suite and the Tower Room are the best rooms. Lastly the New Wing  decorated in a less Moroccan and more modern style offers 2  types of rooms: Riad I rooms (smaller) and Riad II rooms (larger, Junior suites with a bigger sitting-area, some with a balcony or terrace) and apartments with 2 bedrooms (no kitchen).

Location: Built into the town walls of Taroudant, 5 minutes' stroll from the souks, and 15 minutes' walk (5 minutes' taxi) from the Naturally Morocco Guest House. Only 50 minutes from Agadir airport

Services and other points to note: Both Naturally Morocco staff and clients are frequent visitors to the hotel. Feedback is generally good - most of the staff are delightful but some of the, textiles, fittings and furnishings are worn.  WiFi internet access and safe at reception. Two pools, and fitness room, hammam, sauna and massage. Tennis club 500m from the hotel. Two bars where good local live music is played regularly and a lounge. Naturally Morocco’s "Real Morocco" programme is run from the Naturally Morocco Guest House, 15 minutes walk away; guests at  the Palais Salam can take advantage of the meals and activities on offer there.  The list of activities on offer includes guided trips to Berber villages, a National Park, Moroccan cookery lessons and a trip to a hammam.

Meals: Buffet breakfast is included. Two restaurants, one Moroccan (which we recommend) and one international. A buffet evening meal is served at busier times of year.
