Based from our own Guest House and other properties in Taroudant, this renowned small group programme offers a wide selection of activities and outings which introduce you to the authentic Morocco in and around the town, the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas mountains and the Atlantic coast.

Our full 5 - 7 day programme has been nominated on 3 occasions for the UK Responsible Travel Awards and been awarded the 3* "exceptional" rating in the Frommers 2008. In 2009 Naturally Morocco was awarded the Moroccan Tourism board's Responsible Tourism Trophy for Social and Economic Development for our work on community projects around Taroudant.

Our recommendations

Season: all year round.

Length: 5 - 7 nights. Shorter stays possible - this limits the choice of activities.

Flights: Agadir (50 minute transfer), Marrakech possible (3.5 hour transfer).

Day Nights' Stay Typical itinerary for illustration
1 7 Fly to Agadir & taxi transfer to accommodation in Taroudant. Option of flying to Marrakech with transfer via the spectacular Tiz n'Test pass or motorway through the mountains.
2   Visit the two local Taroudant souks, the Arab craft market and the Berber market - among the best in Morocco; climb the ramparts, take a horse drawn carriage (caleche) around the city walls and ramparts or hire some bikes to explore the town.**
3   Day trip to Tioute Oasis and Anti-Atlas Mountains. This excursion takes you through savannah-like and irrigated landscapes on the edge of the Souss Valley to an oasis on the northern edge of the Anti Atlas mountains. During the trip you will see the strange sight of goats grazing in the native argan trees and visit a women’s cooperative where there is a chance to purchase high quality organic products including argan oil which is unique to this region. Evening cookery or language lesson.**
4   Day trip to Berber villages of the High Atlas. The excursion takes in 3 villages each of which depends for its livelihood on one of 3 different products: honey, pottery and olive oil. It includes opportunities to visit local people’s homes to see bread making, their livestock, their lifestyle and to eat a delicious vegetarian tagine, scooped up by freshly baked bread.** Evening swim in the pool of an old palace.
5   Optional day’s trekking Anti Atlas Paradise Valley or the High Atlas, or visit to local hammam and/ or massage with local argan oil.
6   Optional excursion to coast eg National Park - either to the Massa Estuary for bird watching or to the Souss Estuary for a choice of activities including camel rides and visit to a craft village.**
7   Free time to relax or shop in Taroudant, choice of craft workshops, e.g. sandal and jewellery making, or henna tattoos. Evening: Feast for the Senses or Berber band.
8   Morning at leisure if flight time allows, with option on Sundays to visit weekly market outside of town before taxi transfer to airport.

Extension options: 2-4 days Marrakech, Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Mirleft or Agadir), High Atlas or Anti Atlas Mountains and the less frequently visited parts of the Sahara (see the Green T trail)..

Activity options: ** The timings of these excursions and activities may vary, as programming of some activities depends on logistics and numbers. A range of additional day excursions and experiences from Taroudant are also available through our Real Morocco Programme. Trekking on foot, horse or camel is available in the High Atlas.

Taroudant

Taroudant

Just 1 hour east of Agadir, Taroudant is often known as “Little Marrakech” due to the backdrop of the High Atlas Mountains and its red town walls, which are more complete than those of any other Moroccan town.

This Berber market town is little frequented by tourists, providing an authentic experience of everyday life. It is much closer to two mountain ranges and the sea than Marrakech, making it an ideal base from which to explore Berber countryside.
