Tour Description:

Morning

Meet at the passenger port of Tangier at 9.15 am. See part of the new city passing by the beach front where almost of the restaurants and night clubs are located, then cross the main avenue of Mohammed V to the 9th April Square by the main gate entrance into the Medina (old city).

  • Visit the Anglo Saxon church of St Andrew then visit of the market at the Gran Socco before getting into the narrow alleys of the old city and the Petit Socco. Get to the Kasbah (15th century fortification) and a superb view of the medina (old city).
  • Visit a 17th century Sultan's palace that is currently a museum containing many fascinating antiquities including Roman remains. From Bab Bhar (the gate into the sea), you can see the terrace overlooking the straits of Gibraltar, continue down through the labyrinth streets and alleyways of the medina following the Matisse Route (which takes in points of interest related to the famous artist Henry Matisse).
  • Visit the Mendoubia (Legation) gardens.

Options: Lunch in a Moroccan traditional restaurant and, on weekdays only, visit to American Legation Museum ( no entrance fee.  Monday- Thursday 10am-1 pm and  3- 5 pm , Friday 10 am- noon and 3- 5 pm)

Afternoon

After lunch travel by taxi to see the wealthy California district, Cap Spartel, where there is a lighthouse at the point where the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean meet and the lovely Atlantic Coast in the vicinity of Hercules Caves, where Neolithic remains have been found.

Options: A camel ride (paid locally, fee about £1 for 5-10 minute ride). Visit to lovely small town & coastal resort of Asilah, famous for its Portuguese fortifications.
