Ouzoud

Ouzoud is set in the Middle Atlas mountains around 2.5 hours' (150km) scenic drive north east from Marrakech. It is most notable for the cascades (waterfalls), but also it is set in a very beautiful region with lovely walks through gorges, orchards, olive groves (“ouzoud” is the Berber word for olive) and past ancient watermills.

The waterfalls are over 100m high and are considered to be one of the most magnificant sights in Morocco. The falls are most photogenic in the mid afternoon when the sun starts to hit them and fabulous rainbows form.  Although the currents in the pools at the bottom of the falls are treacherous, it is possible to take a refreshing dip in them.

Although the area attracts a number of visitors, its good walks and cafes are rarely overrrun although it can be busy at weekends when Moroccans often visit.
