The town is a pretty, peaceful small town of whitewashed buildings with beautiful views across the foothills and, although it is rarely visited by non Moroccans, visitors are now encouraged.  It has an interesting market on Saturdays. The town houses one of Morocco's most important spiritual sites, the shrine of Moulay Idriss, who was the founding father of Morocco; however, the shrine complex cannot be entered by non-Muslims.
