An exceptional luxury retreat in the lush surroundings of the Palmery, Dar Ayniwen has a relaxed and informal atmosphere, added to by a spa with hammam, sauna and excellent masseuse. Tastefully converted from a private home in 2000, it is sumptuously decorated with antiques. Most of the 8 suites are south-facing and either overlook, or open onto, the extensive mature gardens which contain a lily pond, orange groves, cacti, roses, palms, a lovely large heated pool and lawns.

Accommodation: The 8 spacious suites all come with airconditioning, mini-bar, satellite TV, DVD and safe. The rooms can be double or twin and may accommodate extra bed(s) in the sitting area on request. There are 3 Junior Suites (Tiwalline 1, Mucha or Scheherazade 2); 2 Deluxe Suites (Galaxy, Colonnade) and 3 Royal Suites: the Roman Pavilion & Tiwaline Suite 2 (both of which stand alone in the garden with a wrap-around terrace and private jacuzzi so are ideal for honeymooners) and the Galaxy. Tiwaline Suites have their own fireplaces.

Location: On the edge of Marrakech in the peaceful Palmery, 20 minutes' drive from the main square, Jemaa el Fna.

Services and other points to note: The large pool is heated by solar panels and gas whenever it is needed during the cold months, usually from mid November to mid April. Hammam, sauna, skilled masseuse, room service, concierge, baby-sitting, massage, free transfers to the airport and within Marrakech (free up to midnight). Informal hour introduction to Moroccan cooking is on offer in the afternoon to those dining, free of charge.
