Unusually spacious, eclectic and atmospheric, Riyad Edward and the interconnecting but independent Dar Dillon have been carefully restored by adding various good quality fittings, but retains many original features including stunning carved cedar ceilings. It houses many paintings and artifacts. An unspoiled feeling pervades the 10 unique bedrooms, spacious sitting room and huge dining room, multilevel terraces with magnificent views, and a long pool shaded by an ancient cypress tree.

Accommodation: The characterful 4 rooms and 6 suites are all en suite except “Stripe” which is only let when family or friends take the adjacent master bedroom on the ground floor, the very spacious Douriya Suite, which has a living room with the optional interconnecting bedroom. All bedrooms have heating and air conditioning and some have a fireplace. Most bedrooms are on the first floor of the main riad. There are 3 more bedrooms in the Dar Dillion, which has a separate entrance but also interconnects if required; it can be rented with the house or separately. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, shower room, sitting room with fireplace and TV, kitchen, patio and roof terrace.

Location: Set in the Zaouia quarter of the Medina, a 20 minutes' walk north of the main square of Jemaa el Fna. Cars can drop you off very close by, with a short walk along a straight alley to reach the door.

Services and other points to note: Large swimming pool (7m x 3m). Formerly the home of the Alaoui family, relatives of Morocco’s ruling family, which accounts for its grandeur.

Meals: Breakfast, served in the patio by the pool on the terrace or in the vast dining room is included.  Lunch and dinner can be provided on request, and the food is generous and of high quality.

Staff: Very friendly staff including Mouna and Ishmael provide a very relaxed atmosphere. The personable owner, Stephen, lives in Morocco.
