RIAD SHADEN | MARRAKECH MEDINA

This pretty riad has been restored with meticulous attention to detail. It has 6 well equipped suites and bedrooms overlook a central courtyard with fruit trees, a retractable awning, a fountain and sitting areas; there is also a delightful roof terrace with open and covered areas. For those seeking to eat good food and to experience an authentic neighbourhood of the medina from a very comfortable base supported by very skilled staff, Riad Shaden represents a good choice.

Accommodation: All rooms have air conditioning and heating, satellite TV, safe and hairdryer. There are 6 rooms in all: 4 standard rooms (Leïla and Kaïss on ground floor- a pair of rooms, ideal for families (one double, one twin) - and Chems and Fayrouz on the first floor) and 2 suites on the first floor which can take 2 extra beds in the living rooms. Suite Ouarda (“Rose”) is decorated in soft, romantic colours, has a fireplace and bathroom with shower. Suite Amir (“Prince”) has a more traditional ambience, with tiled walls and sculpted ceilings and a bathroom with a bath.

Location: In the east of the medina with easy access by taxi and private parking near the gate to the medina, Bab Aïlan, in a district considered to be more authentic and traditional than other parts of the medina; local people are always friendly and willing to help. About 20 minutes walk to the main Jemaa el Fna Square.

Services and other points to note: Massage, manicure & pedicure are available on request. Informal cookery lessons take place at 6pm every day; includes shopping trip to buy ingredients and eating the meal afterwards. Room service, laundry, babysitting and internet access are provided. Well equipped solarium.

Meals: Breakfast is included. Generous, good-quality food prepared with fresh, organic ingredients at lunch and dinner can be provided on request.

Staff: Very friendly staff very well managed by Shaden, who is very knowledgeable about places to go, and husband Mehdi, an excellent cook, formerly employed by the high-class Les Cigognes in Marrakech.
