Ideal for a family or small group of friends, this 19th century house, the front half of a traditional riad, has been quaintly restored by local craftsmen with fixtures and fittings displaying a tasteful mix of old and new local and European influences. It offers an ideal intimate holiday base for up to 6 people in a very authentic neighbourhood known for weaving. There are views of the sea and the rooftops from its roof terrace.

Dar 91 - Bedrooms

Accommodation: The house has just 2 bedrooms, with cosy blankets and proper 13.5 tog duvets in winter. Both rooms have en suite bathrooms, one has a terrace and the other has a small (1.55 metre long) elevated bed platform with a barrier which could be dangerous for a young child. The sofa in the lounge can be made up into a bed for a child. In addition there is a living room with a wood burning fireplace, a kitchen and a dining area.

Location: Situated in the Chbanat district of Essaouira, near the Bab Doukkala in the north eastern part of the town very close to the souks and a few minutes walk from the beach.

Services and other points to note: The house manager is available for cookery classes, baby-sitting, introducing you to the souk and taking women to hammam.  Also ‘taster’ courses in raffia-making and Moroccan patisserie may be arranged. All these services are payable direct to her. Discounts are available for children up to 16 years old. There are some board games, a growing library of books and an i-Pod/MP3 dock with speakers.

Meals: Breakfast is included. Meals can be prepared and delivered by the house manager.

Staff: The house manager, Naima, speaks French very well and is learning English. She can make and deliver Moroccan meals to the house. The owners, Jeremy and Paulo, are committed to supporting the local community, giving 10% of all profits to good causes in Essaouira and the local countryside, focusing on education and micro-loans.
