Trek Detail

After a transfer from Zagora, this camel trek takes you for a night's stay under canvas in the Saharan dunes. Your begin with a short camel trek (2 hrs) over to the small dunes 14 km from Zagora, on a route that avoids the normal tourist access. En-route you stop to watch the sun set before arriving at your overnight accommodation which is a carpeted bedouin tent set amidst the dunes. Dinner is served round the campfire and there is traditional folk entertainment.

After an early start to see the sunrise, you take breakfast before taking your camel on the return trip back to your accommodation (alternatively you may return to Zagora by 4x4).

The Camp

The camp is fully equipped with sanitation (bathrooms are shared and of good standard for the desert), hot water and ice boxes. Sleeping is on simple mattresses; blankets & sheets are provided. Clients may choose to be at a the main camp accommodating up to 30 people or on request at a more isolated site. 

On arrival you'll be welcomed at the Berber tent with traditional mint tea. Local cuisine is typically salad or soup (sometimes an unusual lime soup), tajine of meat and vegetables or chicken with lemon, fruit and tea and for younger children, bread, jam, butter, cheese, milk can be made available on request. 

Note - Clients should carry their own water.

Planning Your Trip

When planning your trip to the Saharan dunes please bear in mind:

  • We strongly advise it be part of a trip of at least a week’s duration (ideally 10 days or more for those wishing to visit areas outside the desert too), as the Sahara is about 9 hours by road from Fez and Marrakech.
  • Ideally visit between late Sept to early May to avoid the heat.
