Auberge le Festival | Todra Gorge

A charming, simple auberge managed by a very friendly team and set in a spectacular tranquil location beside the famous Todra Gorge, beyond the places most tourists venture. The 15 roomed stone built auberge blends in with the mountains, and offers a variety of rooms including the option to sleep in amazing cave rooms, which are naturally temperate. Hot water and electricity are generated by solar devices.

Accommodation: Comprises terraces with superb views and 15 bedrooms divided between 2 buildings: one building housing the restaurant and 6 rooms (3 en suite) and a second building housing the best rooms: 5 en suite troglodyte (cave) rooms taking up to 3 beds, 4 en suite tower rooms with terraces overlooking the gorge (these are arranged as 2 pairs of rooms which are interconnected and thus ideal for families or friends). The cave rooms have an all-year-round temperature of 16-18 degrees C so don't need air conditioning.

Location:  20 km from Tinerhir and about 5 km beyond the tourist area near the mouth of the gorge. A good place to stay a night (or more) between Ouarzazate or Skoura and the Merzouga dunes.

Services and other points to note: The area is wonderful for walking: either gentle walks on the valley floor or various more difficult routes for trekking, mule treks and rock climbing on the wall of the Todra Gorge (for more detail see right panel).

Meals: Includes a good breakfast and tasty traditional evening meal. You may eat in a dining room or on the terrace which has umbrellas and breathtaking views.

Staff: Addi, the owner, who has fulfilled his life dream by creating this project, and his staff are all exceptionally friendly, helpful and good fun.

Children are welcomed as long as parents take responsibility for their safety; there are areas on the auberge’s terraces that could be unsafe.
