KASBAH BEN MORO | SKOURA

This 17th century "castle" has been superbly restored using traditional materials; it offers 16 atmospheric rooms, with attractive décor in simple rustic style. Set on the edge of a tranquil palmery with superb views from the terrace of fabulous kasbahs, the oasis and the High Atlas Mountains beyond, Kasbah Ben Moro provides an ideal stopping off point en route to the Saharan dunes.

Accommodation: There are 13 simply decorated, spacious, comfortable en suite rooms, doubles, twins and triples are all available as well as 3 smaller but very atmospheric rooms in the towers with shared bathroom. In addition this property offers Moroccan living rooms, a terrace, patios, a dining room and a shaded terrace. Please note lighting levels are low as one would expect of such a fortress.

Location: Situated on the roadside not far from the edge of beautiful unspoilt Skoura oasis, set on the southern side of the High Atlas Mountains 5 hours from Marrakech, 5 hours to the Saharan dunes and 40 minutes taxi ride from Ouarzazate (30 km).

Services and other points to note: Guides, horse and camel rides and 4x4 trips into the mountains available from the hotel. The hotel is located on the side of the main road so some road traffic noise is apparent in some areas.

Meals: Breakfast is included. Tasty traditional Moroccan food with some European influence, and Mustapha the chef is very obliging.

Staff: Hospitable owner, Juan, with charming, welcoming manager, Aziz, who was born at the Kasbah.
