Located in a truly spectacular, peaceful and remote setting reached by 166 steps, this well renovated guesthouse forms part of a restoration project of a fascinating ancient monument and feels like a step back in time. Tizourhane Kasbah's decoration is simple, but is clean and comfortable with fantastic views of the surrounding mountain area. The local Berber cookery is delicious made with organic ingredients with half and full board options available.

The spacious roof terrace lends itself to relaxation whilst enjoying the superb views and silence of this unspoiled and little visited part of the Anti-Atlas Mountains.

Tizourgane Kasbah

Accommodation: Consists of 19 rooms, 3 family suites (which can sleep up to 4 people), 6 twins, 5 doubles and 5 singles. All rooms have a private ensuite bathroom with showers.

Towels are available on request to conserve precious water or you can bring your own.

Location: Around 1 hour 45 minutes (100 kms) south of Agadir in a remote area, it provides a good stopping off point enroute to Tafraoute.

Services and other points to note: The owner deserves recognition for his efforts to preserve the Kasbah: in 1999 he created an association which has had the support of the Minister of Culture and 3 architects from Agadir. It originally housed 38 families, a prison, grain stores, a water tank and a mosque.

The Kasbah is reached by a flight of 166 steps, hence we suggest carrying an overnight bag rather than taking a large suitcase. Although there is private parking with two entrances, a lift and a porter to help you with luggage, it does save a lot of work getting all your luggage for just one night stay. Be patient when they answer the “castle” door- it’s quite a walk to the guest house.

Treks around the area are available for between 2 and 7 hours can be arranged with or without a guide and payable locally if you request a guided trek.

There is a good satellite internet connection, a safe, a panoramic roof terrace with superb views of the surrounding area and a traditional hammam heated by wood.

Meals: There is a well equipped kitchen onsite where delicious local produce and organic food is served in the large comfortable Berber lounge or on the roof terrace. Prices are normally for half board (including breakfast & dinner), but a full board option is available, ideal if your stay is more than one night.

Staff: Jamal is an entertaining and informative host. Together with his wife, Malika, he offers a comprehensive tour of the Kasbah and its environs, although he does not speak much English, there are staff who speak English.
