Berber Trek - Agadir to Essaouira - 8 Days / 7 Nights

Day 1: Arrive Marrakesh or Agadir and transfer to Agadir

Berber Trek - 8 days / 7 nights

An 8 days and 7 nights' trek from Agadir along Atlantic beaches, the coastal zone and the beautiful foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. This trek covers significant ground with a variety of terrain and passes numerous small local villages untouched by other visitors.

Day 1: Agadir / Marrakech

Arrive at the airport of Agadir or Marrakech, reception and transfer to your overnight accommodation (on a B&B basis) in Agadir. Briefing with the person responsible of the horse trekking, supper and overnight.

Day 2: Imi Ouaddar-Immsker (5 hours)

Your first day in the saddle takes you on winding paths through hills covered by argan trees and cactus plants, with panoramic views of the Atlantic ocean in places.  Your route continues towards to the valley and the souk of Immsker where your first camp site will be set up.

Day 3: Immsker - Timkti (6.5 hours)

You leave Immsker by a path that takes you up to the top of the mountain, before descending into thevillage of in the palm groves, where you will see the Berbers with their donkeys by the water, which is scarce in this area.  The evening camp site will be by the side of a small river, a fabulously calm place to spend the night and watch the stars overhead.

Day 4: Timkti - Ait Hammou (5 hours)

Leaving Timkti you ascend again, this time along an ancient road excavated on the side of the mountain, with its rich colors.  After reached the end of the valley, you will climb a hill and then come across a traditional souk (market), which will have a fascinating mix of donkeys, dromedaries and local merchandise when the market is taking place.  In the afternoon you will pass through an area reportedly rich in fossils, before descending to the dam on the lake of Aït Hammou, where you will camp for the night and have the chance to bathe in the waters of the lake.

Day 5: Ait Hammou - Tamanar (5.5 hours)

Crossing an argan forest you will pass through the oasis of Amssene, and then ride on to the territories of the tribes of Ida ou Tanane.  Lunch may be taken near a small souk where the High Atlas mountains end and the richer agricultural plain starts.  Finally you will descend into the lowland country, and you will camp in Tamanar where warmer showers are possible.

Day 6: Tamanar-Iftane (6/7 hours)

A long day’s ride towards the Atlantic ocean.  Your route is along a narrow road lined with white stone walls, towards the village of Iggui Iferkhs, then past the last wooded hills before the beach of Tafadna. You will camp out near a small fishing village with great vies of the bay.

Day 7: Iftane - Diabat/ Essaouira (6 hours)

Your last day in the saddle takes you along a succession of beaches past a number of small fishing villages, such as Taguenza. Finally you will head inland towards our ranch near Diabat, where tea and sweets will be waiting before before you will be taken back to your chosen riad in Essaouira.

Day 8: Return

Transfer in the airport of Agadir / Marrakech and departure.
