Horse Trekking

Horse Trekking by the SeaExploring Morocco on horseback is a wonderful way of getting off the beaten track and experiencing the stunning landscapes of the country. The length of rides available varies from a half day to week long treks.

Although all of our horse trekking guides and facilities have public liability insurance, clients taking part in treks should ensure that they have suitable clothing, are sufficiently fit and appropriately insured for accidents, medical repatriation, mountain rescue and repatriation helicopter.

Experience Levels

We cater for a variety of abilities: if you are a less experienced rider we would recommend our treks in the Marrakech region since they only use mares; elsewhere stallions are widely ridden since it is illegal to castrate horses in Morocco. We are informed that stallions are safe to ride and that the horses are very carefully trained, but you may wish to seek further advice on this matter.

Accommodation and Meals

Group sizes vary: for longer treks, your first night is in a hotel or guest house and subsequently is normally in tents or occasionally simple Berber homes. Tents are either modern tents for 2 people or sharing a large traditional tent sleeping about 6 people, whichever you prefer.

Food is good quality tasty traditional fare prepared over camp fires on the overnight treks.

Note that if the minimum group size is larger than your party we can often offer you a place with others, especially if you have some flexibility on dates of travel.
