Moroccan International Music Festivals 2014 - Continued

Whether you take in some music as part of your holiday or make a festival the main aim of your trip to Morocco, there's plenty of music in Morocco.

In our previous article on Moroccan Music Festivals we covered the internationally better known fesitvals in Morocco - the Gnaoua, World Sacred Music and Mawazine, which we summarise below.

However, there are a number of other internationally important annual music festivals in Morocco, which are important to note.

Morocco, whilst a beautiful and fascinating country to visit on holiday or for a special purpose such as a music festival, is often slow at promoting up-coming events. This includes advertising dates and artists for the forthcoming year, making it diffuclt for music lovers to plan ahead.

Casablanca Jazzablanca Festival

2014: March 29st to April 3rd, Casablanca

Since its inception in 2006 (9th edition in 2014), Jazzblanca has grown into one of the largest jazz festivals in Morocco, vying with Tanjazz (in Tangier) and Jazz du Chellah (in Rabat) for the top spot.

Spread across various stages across the city – Place des Nations Unis, Hippodrome d’Anfa (main stage), La Corniche – the festival attracts internationally renowned artists including Joss Stone and Patti Smith.

Further subsidiary events occur at other venues including various jazz clubs downtown (converted from restaurants) and jazz workshops for those interested in participating.
