Karen’s Luxury In Morocco

Karen, one of our holiday consultants, is just finishing her latest trip to Morocco (all our consultants regularly visit Morocco) and has been doing regular regular Facebook updates during her trip.

Regular staff trips sound like a jolly (a paid holiday) but are vital for what we do - time to update their knowledge on places in Morocco, talk to existing suppliers and look for new suppliers in the area visited – the large proportion of suppliers in our portfolio are ones we have worked with for a long time and can trust on the consistent quality of service offered (an issue in Morocco) but we are always looking for the best of the newer ones on the block.

A Desert Trip

Karen’s route took her from a start and finish in Marrakech down over the High Atlas mountains, past the World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou and its crumbling kasbahs and the Skoura oasis then down into the desert.

The desert is a magical place but is a significant journey and not one to be rushed – we encourage you to take you time and enjoy the journey down and back, whilst Karen stayed 2 nights in Ait Benhaddou she was constantly on the move thereafter – but hers was a work’s trip not a holiday after all.

Towards the desert she stayed in Zagora near which she saw the dunes of Erg Lihoudi, before heading further on to M’Hamid and the end of the paved road. This is the proper desert (not a pretty town but a short camel trek and you’ll know what I mean) with endless landscapes and starry nights; however, this final extra distance to the end of the road may be just too much travel for some and so there are plenty of other alternatives to be discussed (perhaps staying in the gorges of the southern High Atlas).

A Luxurious End

A couple of years ago I popped out with my wife to Marrakech for a special break and I chose Dar Ayniwen as one of our places to stay – a small hotel in the Palmery region just outside Marrakech medina. My wife has reminded me of that stay ever since, it was fabulous and a complete treat.

Karen is ending her trip in Dar Ayniwen and I am thoroughly jealous. With its understated luxury, beautiful mature gardens and welcoming and interesting owner it is an absolute treat. Karen’s had a long hard and interesting trip, and this is the perfect way to finish.
