Ramadan 2020

Holidays in Morocco During Ramadan...

Ramadan, the month of fasting, is a very important period in Morocco and visitors during that time should at least be aware of it and are likely to experience some effect from it.

Holidays in Morocco During Ramadan

Saturday, 4 January 2020 12:00 AM

Morocco is a great place for a holiday at any time of year and Ramadan is no exception, but we ask clients to understand that service may not be as good as normal when people are hungry and thirsty and to have respect for those observing Ramadan.

Ramadan will be observed from 23rd April 2020 to 24th/25th May 2020.

Insurance on your Moroccan Holiday

Friday, 12 April 2019 12:00 AM

We wish all our customers a safe and happy holiday in Morocco, but remember to have adequate travel insurance for your peace of mind for foreign travel. Unforeseen and unfortunate events can occur - e.g. personal medical issues or loss of valuables- and you don't want to be significantly out of pocket for the sake of relatively cheap insurance set in place before you travel.

There are a variety of direct flight schedules from various UK airports making Morocco even more accessible from the UK. Winter Retreats in Morocco

Wednesday, 5 September 2018 12:00 AM

If you fancy escaping the winter weather and contemplating heading for warmer climates, the south of Morocco is just the place. For many of us, tolerating many months of low temperatures, rain and howling wind is just too much and we crave some warmth and sunshine.

Whilst most of Morocco has a reasonably good climate and can be pleasantly warm, the south is a much better option for a little additional warmth.

Islam in Morocco - Consideration on Holiday in Morocco

Wednesday, 28 March 2018 12:00 AM

Morocco is a very welcoming and tolerant country but the vast majority of Morccans do hold Islamic beliefs and visitors should be sympathetic and respectful of that.

The presence of Islam in everyday life will be felt by most visitors on holiday in Morocco, most obviously during Ramadan, the public and regular calls to prayer, attitude to women and their clothing and the access to alcoholic refreshments - with a little thought and consideration you'll have a great holiday.

Islam in Morocco - Islam Today and Other Religions

Monday, 26 March 2018 12:00 AM

Morocco has a population greater than 33 million today, of which around 99.9% are Muslims - around 67% are Sunni and 30% are non-denominational. Islam is protected in the Constitution and the Moroccan Government strives to maintain a non-fundamental view of Islam as the basis of Moroccan religion.

Morocco has always been tollerant of other religions, but the historical large Jewish communities are now minimal as are the Christian and Shia communities.

Islam in Morocco - History of Religion

Friday, 23 March 2018 12:00 AM

Islam was introducted to Morocco in the 7th century and has been the dominant religion and the religion of Moroccan dynasties from the 8th centuries until the present day.

Today Mohammed VI is the Commander of the Faithful, with all religious leaders subordinate to him, and the Moroccan Constitution grant rights and protections to Islam.

Just give us a call to discuss the possibilities.

First time visitors to Morocco

Tuesday, 27 February 2018 12:00 AM

If someone was to ask me to sum up my very first visit to Morocco in one word, I would say ‘unforgettable’. I was blown away with how enchanted I was by the whole experience at the end of my 12 day first visit to Morocco (and my first time visit to Africa), I was eagerly anticipating my next visit to explore further.

Morocco in December

It may seem a little early in the year to talk about visiting Morocco in December, but it’s surprising how cheap flights can be at this time of year so best to get in there early and book your seats!

Travelling to Morocco in December can be, for some, a great time of year to visit. The temperatures are pleasantly warm, the skies are crystal clear, the air is crisp and is great for photography enthusiasts (like me)!

Travelling overland and entering Morocco by sea from Spain is an interesting route, which currently is popular with many customers.

Whilst the border is formally open between the two countries, the countries have a long history as close neighbours and occasionally the border can be closed for a short time with minimal notice.

Arriving At Marrakech Airport

Holidays can be a little stressful – travelling to the airport on time, security checks and the flight time can lead to the arrival into a different country to be a little nerve-wracking.

Naturally Morocco seeks to make every holiday for its customers as enjoyable and stress free as possible, so a little information on what to expect as you arrive and advice for that time will certainly help.

It is an overgrown and atmospheric site adorned by storks’ nests, littered with ruins and Roman columns and is a fascinating place to meander around.

UK Passport Delays & Moroccan Tourist Arrivals

Monday, 28 March 2016 12:00 AM

It is reported that there can be long delays in getting passport renewals in the UK so do plan in advance for your holiday in Morocco. Remember that your passport need only be valid for the duration of your stay (although some airlines may require 3 month validity beyond the period of your intended stay and always best to check this beforehand so you don't get caught out). For UK citizens and many nationals, no visa is needed for your holiday.

Moroccan Argan Oil

Tuesday, 16 February 2016 12:00 AM

Moroccan Argan Oil

This truly magical 'Liquid Gold' as it’s known, is unique to Morocco and still produced using traditional methods. Many of the ‘Argan Cooperatives’ found in various cities, towns and smaller villages in Morocco supply oil for culinary purposes but is also becoming increasingly popular cosmetically (in its unroasted form) for the hair, to treat a variety of skin diseases, as a natural moisturiser but also to combat wrinkles!

A Day On Holiday in Rabat

Tuesday, 8 December 2015 12:00 AM

A Day On Holiday in Rabat

Rabat is a great city for a shorter break or as part of a longer holiday day in Morocco. It is a city with a lovely range of things to see and places to wander and is a great peaceful destination that I cannot rate highly enough for a day or two.

But everyone is different, what you and I want from a holiday in Morocco will not be the same, so below this intro I write a little about a typical day for me in Rabat on my most recent trip.

Have a read of this then give our team a call to discuss what you want from a holiday. Fly into and out of Rabat international airport, or take the train on to Marrakech to the south or north to Fez and Meknes.

Moroccan Lamb Tajine

Monday, 30 November 2015 12:00 AM

Moroccan Lamb Tajine

Friends of mine have just come back from Morocco, a fairly short holiday but they managed to go to a favourite restaurant of mine and have a Mechoui – a highly spiced roasted lamb (either whole or leg), slow cooked until the meat is soft and falls off the bone. They loved it, luckily, as it was my recommendation and my favourite dish.

James Bond on Holiday in Morocco

Tuesday, 17 November 2015 12:00 AM

James Bond on Holiday in Morocco

OK … in Spectre he wasn’t exactly taking a holiday during his trip in Morocco but yet another film decided to incorporate Morocco into their script.

A long line of films (Bourne series, Gladiator etc) have based at part of their story of filming explicitly or otherwise in Morocco. Much of the filming is done towards the desert and Morocco has large studios near Ait Ben Haddou, but Spectre went further in to the desert towards Merzouga.

Holiday Reviews On Trust Pilot

Monday, 16 November 2015 12:00 AM

Morocco is a fabulous country to explore and Naturally Morocco is here to ensure that you get the most from your holiday – a little hand holding goes a long way as you can tell from recent reviews of us on Trust Pilot.

Ideas for Holidays in Morocco in January

Friday, 13 November 2015 12:00 AM

The midwinter in the UK is a bleak place, but with warm weather, off-season flight prices and some special offers available on accommodation, Morocco offers a great holiday and a great escape, especially to the more southerly destinations – perhaps the culture of Taroudant or the adventure of the desert.

A Day On Holiday in Fez

Harira Soup – The Moroccan Holiday Must

Wednesday, 4 November 2015 12:00 AM

Harira Soup – The Moroccan Holiday Must

Whilst the tajine is the most famous Moroccan recipe and is a certainty that you will try whilst on your holiday in Morocco, harira is another traditional Moroccan dish that is very understated and rather under publicised and definitely something that you should try.

A Holiday Day Walking In Morocco

Friday, 30 October 2015 12:00 AM

A Holiday Day Walking In Morocco

Morocco might be a place for a holiday of cultural insight – a moderate Islamic country a short flight away from the UK – but it is also blessed with some outstanding natural beauty.

Your holiday can take in as little or as much of this natural wonder, ranging from the sandy Atlantic shores through to the awe inspiring barren desert, but for those holiday makers passing through Marrakech (or Taroudant to the south)I can thoroughly recommend the High Atlas Mountains.

A Day On Holiday In Essaouira

Saturday, 24 October 2015 12:00 AM

A Day On Holiday In Essaouira

Essaouira is a beautiful and interesting Moroccan town on the Atlantic coast. It is a comfortable drive due west from Marrakech but now also has direct flights from the UK making it a great holiday destination.

So what is it like there and what might I expect in a typical day?

Shopping for carpets in Morocco

Wednesday, 21 October 2015 12:00 AM

Shopping for carpets in Morocco

At Naturally Morocco, one of the many things we love about what we do is stories that our clients regale us with on their return.

It is so refreshing to hear detailed personal experiences about their journey they have taken and adapting to their new unfamiliar surroundings. I could spend hours and hours reading feedback and reviews, but picked this one out recently as my favourite. It’s an amusing account from one of clients who recently travelled to Morocco in September 2015 and their experience in ‘buying a carpet’. This story made me smile as it was something I could totally relate to on my very first trip back in 2009….

Alcohol On Holiday In Morocco

Monday, 12 October 2015 12:00 AM

Alcohol On Holiday In Morocco

Everyone has their own wish list or needs for a holiday, which is why Naturally Morocco is here to create the right holiday for each individual and why we are now in our 20th year of doing so.

For me a holiday is about the right mix of relaxation and interest, and I like to relax in the evening with a little drink.

Morocco is a Muslim country and this does have an effect on the availability of alcohol during your holiday which you should be aware of.

It is possible to have your occasional drink without offending local sensitivities, but it is best to go on holiday prepared and informed.

A Day On Holiday In Taroudant

Tuesday, 6 October 2015 12:00 AM

A Day On Holiday In Taroudant

A little knowledge can go a long way in easing fears for those new customers who have not been on holiday to Morocco before, and a common question is the general “what’s it like there?” so I write below a typical day on my last holiday in Taroudant as a taste of what to expect.

Holiday In Essaouira – Surfing

Friday, 2 October 2015 06:00 PM

Holiday In Essaouira – Surfing

My first holiday in Morocco, before I became involved with Naturally Morocco, was with a small group of friends wanting a relaxing get-away.

Naturally Morocco came up in our search and they suggested Essaouira as a possible destination and soon enough we were staying in a riad there.

Ideas for Holidays in Morocco in December

Tuesday, 29 September 2015 12:00 AM

Whilst its cold and wet at home, Morocco experiences wonderfully temperate weather in December, with average temperatures in the late teen deg C in most places albeit evenings and nights can be chilly.

This is still a good month to head south, perhaps even to the desert if you are feeling adventurous or maybe just to the southern medina town of Taroudant. Marrakech is a good option although it will be full over the holiday period, but maybe a quick shopping trip before the holidays is a treat that you deserve this year.

Compensation For Delayed Flights To Morocco

Sunday, 27 September 2015 12:00 AM

Compensation For Delayed Flights To Morocco

There’s almost nothing worse than starting or ending a holiday to Morocco, or any other holiday with a bad flight. With the proliferation of routes over the last 20 years since Naturally Morocco first started, and the reduction in seat prices due to the budget airlines, holidays to Morocco have become progressively easier, more flexible and cost conscious and flights are generally a minor inconvenience to soon forget on your arrival.

Morocco Holiday Gems – Chefchaouen

Thursday, 24 September 2015 12:00 AM

Morocco Holiday Gems – Chefchaouen

The holiday market is becoming ever more focussed on Marrakech, which gives great opportunities to holiday makers to explore in greater peace elsewhere.

One such excellent destination is Chefchaouen - a sleepy yet stunning town nestled in the foothills of the Rif mountains.

Holiday In Fez and Chefchaouen

Monday, 21 September 2015 12:00 AM

Holiday In Fez and Chefchaouen

The north of Morocco is an amazing place to take your holiday. The scenery of the countryside, especially the Middle Atlas and Rif mountains, is spectacular and a little more lush than the more arid regions further south; and, the cities and towns are less touristy than Marrakech yet are full of interest and places to explore.

Moroccan Tajine – A Holiday Delight

Thursday, 17 September 2015 12:00 AM

Moroccan Tajine – A Holiday Delight

One of the delights of a holiday in Morocco is the delicious food. Morocco has a distinctly different culture from our own and the food reflects it, blending the Arab and other influences that have been creating Moroccan culture over centuries.

A Day in Marrakech

Moroccan Architecture - Riads and Dars

Tuesday, 4 August 2015 12:00 AM

Morocco's rich architectural heritage includes riads and dars, both forms of family home, many of which have now been converted into boutique accommodation for visitors to Morocco. These two terms are explored here.

Moroccan Architecture - Agadirs, Foundouks and Massreiya

Monday, 3 August 2015 12:00 AM

Morocco's rich architectural heritage includes the lesser known agadirs (fortified storage buildings) and foundouks (merchant travellers' accommodation). Whilst these buildings are no longer used for their historical purposes, these two terms are explored here and are worth seeking out in your visit to Morocco.

Ideas for Holidays in Morocco in September

Friday, 31 July 2015 12:00 AM

After Morocco's peak summer heat, the temperatures across Morocco in September are relatively comfortable and open up all destinations for holiday makers.

Fez and Meknes, the most northerly Imperial cities, and Marrakech further south are all land trapped and typically uncomfortable in peak heat but are now coming into their prime and can be combined to make a fascinating multi centre holiday.

Morocco Holiday Choices – Marrakech Medina or Palmery

Friday, 10 July 2015 12:00 AM

Marrakech, due to the great choice of flights to its international airport, is the gateway to the Morocco or a destination in its own right for most visitors to the country and can easily be combined with a second (or more) destination(s).

Marrakech offers a choice of location for your accommodation - the Medina or the Palmery - each with its own appeal and what is right for you depends on what you are looking for in your holiday. We will help choose on the right location and accommodation for you.

How Safe Are Holidays in Morocco?

Monday, 6 July 2015 12:00 AM

… I’m talking in the context of recent events in Tunisia, differentiate between countries as Morocco is probably as safe as almost any other major holiday destination.

Ideas for Holidays in Morocco in August

Sunday, 28 June 2015 12:00 AM

In August, as in July, the most temperate destinations in Morocco are on the Atlantic coast and there's a number of excellent options offering culture and/ or natural beauty. I'll also add into this the southern medina town of Taroudant, which is relatively temperate and has a number of cultural options available.

Away from the coast many places are will be relatively very hot, so choose carefully, pools are a great asset, and recognise that the sun is very hot, and leave the desert adventure to later in the year.

Morocco - A Great Different Holiday

Monday, 15 June 2015 12:00 AM

Morocco is different from Europe, which is why it so appealing as a holiday destination; but it is different from Europe, which is why some holiday makers have a little trepidation before their trip.

With Naturally Morocco you get excellent accommodation and professional transfers to make sure the holiday fundamentals are sorted.

The Imperial Morocco

Tuesday, 9 June 2015 12:00 AM

Holidays in Morocco are increasingly becoming focussed on Marrakech, but the Imperial cities of the north of Morocco - Fez, Meknes and Rabat - offer a vastly different experience away from the weekend crowds.

Ideas for Holidays in Morocco in July

Wednesday, 27 May 2015 12:00 AM

In July many places are getting relatively very hot - most obviously the desert region (wait until the autumn to visit there), but most inland destinations are also hot.

However, there are a number of excellent destinations on the Atlantic coast that offer a mix of culture and natural beauty and the southern town of Taroudant is also relatively temperate and offers a great option for those seeking to explore Moroccan culture further.

This is an excellent article from the Sunday Times in 2012 that is well worth rereading now.

With school holidays in April and May significantly affecting flight prices and accommodation availability, plan round those peak times if possible to see any part of Morocco - from the Imperial cities of the north to Taroudant or the desert of the south.

Churchill and Roosevelt in Marrakech

Monday, 16 February 2015 12:00 AM

Churchill termed Marrakech the "Paris of the Sahara" following a winter there before the war and was so enamoured with it he insisted that he and Roosevelt take a break from their war planning in Casablanca to visit the city in 1943.

Much has changed since then but the beauty that inspired Churchill's paintings remains.

Flooding in Southern Morocco

Monday, 8 December 2014 12:00 AM

Following some of the heaviest rainfall on record, certain regions in the south of Morocco experienced their worst flash floods in living memory - with a reported 47 dead and hundreds of homes destroyed.

Southern Morocco is arid but flash floods do occasionally occur in dry riverbeds, but loss of live is very rare. Our thoughts go out to those affected.

A Holiday Weekend in Fez, Morocco

Monday, 1 December 2014 12:00 AM

Lesley Thomas extolled the virtues of Fez for a weekend break in an article in the Saturday Times. We agree that it is an excellent choice, although we would typically recommend avoiding mid winter at as all other times it can be a gorgeous and fascinating medina city to visit.

Karen Reminisces of Morocco

Monday, 17 November 2014 12:00 AM

Karen, one of our senior travel consultants in the UK, has just returned from her latest trip to Morocco - a work trip not a holiday but checking out a route from Marrakech to the desert that does offer an exciting holiday for those interested in something different - city, moutains, oasis, World heritage site, desert and dunes.

Here are her words written as she returned, which I hope give you the urge to talk to her soon and to follow her steps.

Water Use On Holiday In Morocco

Friday, 14 November 2014 12:00 AM

Water is a precious resource in Morocco - it is estimated that the water table in the Souss Basin (the area stretching inland from Agadir, south of the High Atlas) is reducing by aound 1m per year.

As supporters of responsible tourism, we encourage our guests to be sensible in their water use on holiday - simple to do, yet important.

Karen’s Luxury In Morocco

Tuesday, 11 November 2014 12:00 AM

One of our travel consultants, Karen, is just finishing a trip down to the desert - starting and finishing in Marrakech. This is a fascinating and beautiful possible holiday but it covers a significant distance and Karen covered it a little faster than we would normally recommend.

However, she has finished her trip in style, staying in the Palmery region of Marrakech for a little (albeit brief) luxury and relaxation before heading back to the office.

Trip To The Moroccan Desert

Friday, 7 November 2014 12:00 AM

Our travel consultants regularly visit Morocco to refresh their knowledge and find new things and the latest to go is Karen, who is in the desert right now.

She's posting wonderful photos and comments on our Facebook page as she goes, which makes that journey sound an interesting holiday - call us if it sparks your imagination.

Supreme Court - Flight Delay Compensation

Monday, 3 November 2014 12:00 AM

The Supreme Court ruling last week may finally bring to a close years of uncertainty over what types of flight delay give rise to compensation for affected passengers.

The ruling (dismissing an appeal by 2 flight companies) states that claims may be made for permissible delays in the last 6 years years and that delays caused by technical faults in the aircraft are not extraordinary, hence compensation is due - currently £470 plus reasonable expenses.

Shopping Holidays in Morocco

Monday, 27 October 2014 12:00 AM

Laetitia Trouillet wrote an article on Where To Shop In Marrakech for the Saturday Times, 25 October 2014. In that article she mentions a few shops she recommends for shopping trips.

Morocco is a short flight away from the UK and a shopping trip before Christmas can be a great little treat, but beyond the specific fashion shops are the huge souks selling an amazing selection of Moroccan produced items that you will rarely find at home - the only question remains how to get things back home on a budget airline.

What To Buy on Holiday in Morocco

Friday, 24 October 2014 12:00 AM

As you wander the souks on your Moroccan holiday you can't help but stop occasionally (or often) and wonder at the skill and craftsmanship of the goods on offer - items that you would rarely see at home and normally at excellent prices.

Whether its ceramics, leather, textiles, woodwork or metal work that interests you or may make a unique gift for someone you know a little shopping may be of interest.

Lizzie Porter wrote an article for the Telegraph on "where's safe for the winter sun?" highlighting past concerns in the North African and Middle Eastern region.

She highlights Ouarzazate as an interesting option for the winter holidays, which we also believe is an excellent starting point - although a significant distance from international airports, it is in a region full of beautiful scenery and places to visit.

Christmas Holiday In Marrakech

Thursday, 18 September 2014 12:00 AM

As on holiday in any country, Morocco has a few pit falls to watch out for when on holiday and in this article we briefly look at local transport and ensure you agree a price before you set off.

We at Naturally Morocco will ensure the fundamental parts of your holiday run smoothly, but exploring and getting lost by yourselves in an ancient medina is part of the experience and something to be enjoyed.

Watch Out On Holiday - Buying Moroccan Goods

Tuesday, 16 September 2014 12:00 AM

Morocco is the same as any other holiday destination in that there may be unscrupulous locals wanting to take advantage of your nativity. In this article we just raise a couple of more obvious Moroccan items you might be tempted to buy, just so that you are a little cautious if you are tempted.

Naturally Morocco will look after you during the basic parts of your holiday - e.g. transfers, guides and accommodation - but exploring by yourselves an ancient medina and haggling for goods is part of the experience and nothing to be worried about.

Focus On Moroccan Accommodation – Dar Ayniwen

Friday, 12 September 2014 12:00 AM

Whilst Naturally Morocco is constantly reviewing the best of the newer riads and other boutique accommodation in Morocco, some of the best that we offer are those that we have worked with for many years.

One such boutique hotel is Dar Ayniwen in the Marrkaech Palmery, a luxurious hotel perfect for a special holiday.

Booking A Holiday To Morocco On-Line

Tuesday, 9 September 2014 12:00 AM

The internet has opened up the holiday market to Morocco, cheap flights and a huge choice of hotels at your finger tips.

This is great news for many people but for many others expert help is needed to choose the right riad in the right destination and to ensure you don't suffer from the rush to bottom price, which on-line booking sites result in.

Holiday Interruption Due To Volcanic Ash

Friday, 5 September 2014 12:00 AM

Before we start on what rights you have if this happens, please note that there are no volcanic ash clouds currently and none are currently expected - this is an information piece only.

The disruptions in 2010 due to ash clouds tested what flight companies were liable for even though they were extraordinary circumstances. In effect the flight company had to look after its customers in Morocco (and elsewhere) until it could get them home.

Focus on Marrakech Riads – Riad Hayane

Tuesday, 2 September 2014 12:00 AM

Riad Hayane is the latest find by our specialist travel consultants - it is a classic riad in the medina of Marrakech close to the Saadien Tombs, and has 6 comfortable rooms set around a peaceful courtyard.

We only take on and recommend riads and other accommodation after an extensive review to ensure that we are confident that our customers will enjoy staying there. There are are hundreds of riads in Marrakech to choose from of very differing quality and style - that is where Naturally Morocco and our vetting procedures come into its own in creating excellent holidays.

One Day in Marrakech

Tuesday, 26 August 2014 12:00 AM

Marrakech is a tricky place to describe and recommend - its interesting souks, modern life and places to visit can be rather swamped by tourists - but my day there recently was wonderful and relaxing.

Staying at Riad Cinnamon to the north of the main souk, I was relaxed and well fed and simply ended up wanting more time. My day shows what a day can be like around Marrakech; however, I didn't really push myself that hard.

Marrakech Riads – Riad Houma

Friday, 22 August 2014 12:00 AM

Riad Houma is our latest addition to our portfolio - a classic riad in the medina of Marrakech close to the Saadien Tombs, yet recently rebuilt and with good modern facilities.

We are very careful about what new accommodation to take on in our portfolio, there are hundreds of riads in Marrakech, but few that offer consistently good service - that is where Naturally Morocco comes into its own in creating excellent holidays.

Illnesses on Holiday in Morocco

Monday, 18 August 2014 12:00 AM

It is possible to get bugs whilst on holiday in Morocco as it is in almost any country, but generally the chances of anything significant is very low.

Make sure your normal vaccinations are up to date, take care in the sun, and drink bottles water and you should be fine, but stomach upsets can and do occur even so. Also make sure you have adequate holiday insurance just in case, hospitals in Moroccan cities are generally good but there is no reciprocal healthcare agreement with the UK so you would have to pay as you go.

Mawazine Music Festival 2014 – June in Rabat

Friday, 15 August 2014 12:00 AM

Justin Timberlake was the headline act in Rabat at this year's Mawazine music festival, but with more than 30 acts and numerous street performers entertaining over 2.5 million people in the week, the free festival was a success yet again.

The 2015 edition will be on 29th May to 6th June 2015, and its increasing popularity means that booking quality accommodation early is now important.

Moroccan Holiday Choices – Chefchaouen or Tetouan

Tuesday, 12 August 2014 12:00 AM

Getting away from the more obvious - these holiday destinations are hidden away in the foothills of the Rif mountains of Morocco’s north and are relatively difficult to get to, but otherwise they are as different as chalk and cheese.

Chechaouen is picture postcard perfect – beautiful blue and white houses in a compact medina surrounded by stunning mountains – whilst Tetouan is a vast rambling medina of everyday Moroccan life, albeit the medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Surfing Holidays in Morocco

Monday, 4 August 2014 12:00 AM

Morocco is blessed with an enormous coastline on the Atlantic and warm or hot air temperatures virtually all year round that, coupled with a good seasonal swell, makes Morocco a great place for a surfing holiday.

If you like to dabble with surfing but like a little comfort and culture Naturally Morocco can create a great holiday combining it all.

Moroccan Zillij

Monday, 28 July 2014 12:00 AM

Morocco's rich cultiural history, dating back to the Romans and Phoenicians has left it with a unique form of artwork - the Zillij - which I hope you encounter on your holiday.

Zillig is abstract geometric mosaic artwork, most often found on public fountains and walls, which requires a huge level of skill and time to create. Consequently its use is steadily decreasing and older pieces are falling into disrepair. Highly photogenic, this is artwork to stand and marvel at during you holiday exploration.

Sue Visits Marrakech and Essaouira

Tuesday, 22 July 2014 12:00 AM

Our travel consultant Sue is travelling around Moroccan right now with her sister Marion and posting to our Facebook page.

So far they have been to Marrakech and Essaouira leaving some wonderful photos to make me jealous, and giving some great travel tips. I know that she is working hard to keep our portfolio of accommodation fresh, but it does look a little like a holiday from some of the photos.

Language Barriers in Morocco for Tourists

Monday, 23 June 2014 12:00 AM

Many holiday makers to Morocco are concerned about possible language issues, but don’t be concerned – a little muddling by is part of the adventure.

Where English is not understood, a smile, a few polite gestures and perhaps a little basic French is likely to be all that you need.

Holiday Flight Delay Compensation

Monday, 16 June 2014 12:00 AM

Whether flying to Morocco or elsewhere for your holiday, flights do occasionally get delayed.

European Commission regulations provide for compansation for passengers on flights delayed by more than 3 hours. Recently the UK's Court of Appeal held that airplane techical faults were entirely ordinary and were not a valid reason for an airline to dismiss a claim for compensation.

However, claims for such delays may not be paid out until after a possible appeal to the Supreme Court (summer 2015), but this decision could have a significant effect on airlines.

A Driver For Your Moroccan Holiday

Friday, 13 June 2014 12:00 AM

Whilst self-driving on holiday in Morocco is a wonderful way to explore the country, a topic we have written about before, for many guests the option of having a driver allows them to relax even more during their journey.

Moroccan drivers are no better or worse than in most of the world, and luckily they normally drive fairly slowly, but as always you must talk to your driver if things are not to your liking.

Holiday Guides in Morocco

Friday, 6 June 2014 12:00 AM

Guides are a valuable help for introduction to Moroccan towns or cities, drawing out the history and culture that might otherwise be missed, but guides in much of the world are tempted to supplement their income by encouraging their customers to shop – and, unfortunately, Moroccan guides are no exception.

This need not be a significant issue, just don't let it be bigger than it need otherwise be – if you are not interested in shopping during your tour, don’t be timid and just say "no".

Holiday Street Food In Morocco - Tasty Bites

Wednesday, 4 June 2014 12:00 AM

With larger meals at breakfast and in the evening, light snacks to keep you going in the day are my personal preference, and there's a good choice of street food around towns and cities to try.

Here I write about a couple of my favourite snacks to carry around as I explore a medina or have a train journey to another city.

Holiday Street Food In Morocco - Larger Snacks

Monday, 2 June 2014 12:00 AM

Moroccan food is great – a range of fresh, carefully prepared and spiced ingredients – but sit-down food is not always wanted when you are on the go, so street food comes into its own.

In these articles we go through a few excellent options to keep you going, and here we write about a larger snack for a light lunch.

Pools In Morocco

Friday, 23 May 2014 12:00 AM

Having a pool at your accommodation when its hot in Morocco is important to most holiday makers and our accommodation finder can help you find the right one for your holiday.

Whilst riads in the medinas may have a plunge pool, those accommodations away from the medinas may have larger pools - be aware of the fundamental difference and recognise that you are responsible for your own safety (and for your children if you have any with you).

How Popular Is Morocco For A Holiday

Wednesday, 21 May 2014 12:00 AM

Morocco is a great place to have a holiday and the Moroccan Government is managing the steady increase in visitor numbers - which reached 10 million in 2013, over a third of whom were from France - as a valuable source of revenue for the country and jobs for Moroccans.

Whilst visitor numbers are very significant, the Government is focussing the growth on larger beach resorts to try to manage the effect of tourism on the culture of its historic cities and towns.

Pros and Cons of a Riad Holiday in Marrakech and Other Cities

Friday, 16 May 2014 12:00 AM

Staying is a riad in Morocco lets you stay in the heart of a historical Moroccan town or city in an authentic Moroccan building, but it is not for every visitor to Morocco and it is important to set expectations about the possible negative aspects of staying in a riad.

Things to do in Morocco on Holiday – Try a Watersport

Friday, 9 May 2014 12:00 AM

Morocco is full of things to do, both cultural, therapeutic and energetic. Whilst in Essaouira I had time on my hands to try a watersport. Essaouira has a huge sandy beach and a number of huts providing watersport kit hire and tuition.

Although I signed up one afternoon to try kite surfing the next day, the wind wasn't strong enough so I had a wonderful day trying to surf - a great way to lose some energy for the whole family.

Holiday Accommodation in Morocco – Riad Hikaya, Marrakech

Wednesday, 7 May 2014 12:00 AM

Naturally Morocco carefully selects accommodation in Morocco for our portfolio, accommodation that we are confident will consistently provide excellent service to our guests on their holidays.

Riad Hikaya is the latest such accommodation, based in the kasbah region of the medina of Marrakch, it is a sumptuous riad with excellent staff and services that we have classified as "chic".

Unusual Things to do in Morocco on Holiday - Have a Cookery Lesson

Monday, 5 May 2014 12:00 AM

Moroccan cuisine is excellent and uses techniques and ingredients that we rarely use in the UK and "the west". If you are interested in learning more, Naturally Morocco offers many chances to do so - in formal cookery schools or informal cookery lessons.

They are all hands-on and you'll eat the fruits of your labors afterwards and, for those guests interested in such things, will give you something memorable to take home with you.

Unusual Things to do in Morocco on Holiday - Go To A Moroccan Public Hammam

Friday, 2 May 2014 12:00 AM

Having your skin scrubbed with a coarse cloth and thick black soap in a public hammam in Morocco is something to remember and somthing you might well get the taste for. Ask for an introduction from your accommodation and pay for a hammam attendant to scrub and look after you, and emerge hours later thoroughly clean.

Unusual Things to do in Morocco on Holiday - Troglodytes near Fez

Monday, 28 April 2014 12:00 AM

A chat over a cup of tea with a troglodyte is something to remember, and I was lucky enough to experience this in Bahlil (a short drive south of Fez) on a day out with our guide. Our host was a lady who had lived in a 2 roomed cave since birth and loved talking of her life and family and the issues in both.

Holiday Attractions in Morocco - Marrakech Souks (and Haggling)

Friday, 25 April 2014 12:00 AM

For most holiday makers in Morocco, a wander through a souk is a valuable and interesting part of the trip. The souks in Marrakech are huge and, although are in the main focussed on international tourists, are worth a leisurely exploration.

If you are tempted to buy something, be prepared for some serious haggling, which is all part of the experience.

Holiday Attractions in Morocco - Marrakech tanneries and Communal Ovens

Wednesday, 23 April 2014 12:00 AM

Away from the main tourist attractions of Marrakech lie the tanneries of Marrakech, which have been turning raw hides into fine leather for hundreds of years, and the communal ovens used daily by local families.

The tanneries are the unsanitised Morocco, the working conditions are an eye-opener for young and old alike and the smell is almost impossible to describe. A guide is recommended who can help you find them and avoid local touts.

Morocco Holiday Testimonial - Jane's trip with an 18 month child

Friday, 18 April 2014 12:00 AM

We strive to make every holiday go smoothly and for all our guests to have an excellent holiday whilst in Morocco and take great pride in receiving positive feedback from our guests after their holiday.

Jane was kind enough to write a full testimonial of her trip in February with her family, including an 18 month old infant, which included 3 nights in Marrakech at Les Borjs de la Kasbah, followed by 3 nights in Chez Momo in Ouirgane in the High Atlas mountains.

Getting to Morocco for your Holiday

Friday, 11 April 2014 12:00 AM

Budget airlines now dominate the passage from the UK to Morocco, with fast journey times, normally at low cost and with various routes available into the heart of Morocco.

However, the overland route (via Paris and Madrid) is still possible with good regular ferry options across the Strait of Gibraltar – it is a cross-continent adventure that requires time and planning and may cost a significant amount, but can offer a vastly different holiday experience.

Moroccan Holiday Choices – Essaouira or Oualidia

Wednesday, 9 April 2014 12:00 AM

Essaouria with good road links to Marrakech (and its international airport), great selection of accommodation, interesting medina and protected beach offers a varied holiday;
