Travel and Weather

Morocco is an exciting country for a holiday with a relatively short flight from the UK, and its various ways to get around the country to explore its diverse attractions and enjoy the generally temperate climate.

Getting There

Flying is the most popular way of getting to Morocco which only a 3.5 hour flight from the UK and is served by several airlines and routes. Alternatively for those with more time, Morocco can be accessed by train (or car) from the UK, arriving by ferry into Tangier across the Straits of Gibraltar.

Internal Travel

In Morocco public coaches go between most major towns and cities. Self drive car hire is possible but road signs can be difficult so cars with drivers offer a good option. Trains from Marrakech north to Casablanca and via Rabat to Meknes, Fez and Tangier are also a good alternative.

Internal Distances

Due to the large size of Morocco, you could make several separate holidays here; we suggest that you consider carefully the distances involved and that travelling may be slow due to winding mountainous roads when planning your itinerary (see table of Distances).

Weather

Morocco enjoys a more temperate climate than other North African countries thanks to the moderating influence of the Atlantic. There is such a wide range of climate due to the large variations in both latitude and altitude that the weather is ideal in some regions at any time of year.

In summer the inland areas can be very hot whereas in winter some mountainous regions receive snow.  Even if it is hot in the day, in the evening it may be cool especially in the winter months.  Whilst it is normally sunny, be prepared for the occasional shower or downpour
