Its resemblance to Marrakech lies in:

• its setting with a backdrop of the High Atlas Mountains (to which it is much closer – 30 minutes rather than 1 hour)
• its lovely town walls (more complete than any town in Morocco)
• its markets (souks), said to be the best in the south

In contrast to Marrakech:

• Taroudant is a market town rather than a city (you can walk across it in 20 minutes)
• it has a predominantly Berber population, who are well known for their friendliness
• little effected by tourism, giving an authentic experience of everyday life, but it lacks the famous monuments
• well placed in relation to a greater variety of contrasting environments (sea, mountains, oases and mountain passes), so it is an excellent base

Relaxation: If you just want to relax nearer to home, all accommodations have a private sun terrace and all either have pools (heated in 2 cases) or access to pools within 5-15 minutes on foot. Massages and visits to the local hammam (steam baths) are always available.

Weather: Taroudant has an equable climate and is thus an ideal all year round destination, though July and August are too hot for some, as shown below:
