Essaouira - The Town

 We consider it Morocco's most charming (Atlantic) coastal resort and think it's perfect for first time visitors

Activities
Camel and horse treks (please click for brochure - pre-booking advised), bike hire, walking, fishing, historic sites, museums, sailing, tennis, hammam, shopping, thalassotherapy (seawater based therapies), water sports - wind and kite surfing (a school teaching these sports is located in the town), observation of wildlife, especially birds and swimming (in the sea, weather permitting, or for those who prefer a pool to the sea, there are 2 hotels whose pools are widely used by those staying in the old town, although one is only available to residents in July and August. Both charge just over £3 per day). Note that most places are easily accessed on foot.

Excursions with our charming and educated guide, Sabir, who speaks very good English. There are 2 5-6 hour long options. Maximum 4 people. Cost per person including transport, guiding & lunch from £32:

• The excursion to the N leaves Essaouira 10 o'clock for Moulay Bouzerktoun, 27Km North: a small fishing village and a paradise for wind surfers. Zaouit Echrif, 15 Km : Traditional pottery. Oasis of Ain L ahjar, 10Km: Marabout. Argan trees and talk about argan oil. Village of Had Eddra. On Sundays visit the weekly market. • Lunch in Berber restaurant.
• The excursion to the S leaves Essaouira 10 am for Sidi Kaouiki: Lovely 28km-long beach (camels, surfing etc) • Option of walk to Cascades of Sidi Mbarek (waterfalls) 17 Km: (1.75 hrs) • Lunch in Berber traditional house: talk about Argan oil.

Weather
Essaouira has a very equable climate and is thus an ideal all year round destination. Although it can be windy, note that wind speeds are much lower in winter.
